With the online dating pool available at your very fingertips, it can be appealing to test the waters and try to form a connection with someone you meet.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should put your own personal safety at risk. HighSpeedInternet.com published a new list of the online dating safety ratings of each state based on factors like violent crime rates, STD rates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sex education data and more.

At the top of the list of the most dangerous states for online dating are Alaska at number one, Louisiana at number two and Mississippi at number three.

The top three safest states, on the other hand, were identified as Vermont (number one), West Virginia (number two) and New Hampshire (number three).

So, how did Connecticut measure up?

As it turns out, surprisingly well. The Nutmeg State ranks at number nine on the list of the safest cities for online dating in 2019.

But that doesn’t mean you should throw caution to the wind when putting yourself out there. During your online dating endeavors, always take the following precautions, no matter what state you’re in:

  • Always tell friends when you plan to meet up with someone you met online
  • Always arrange your own reliable transportation
  • Always meet up at a public place
